At its launch, DATAIA Institute mobilizes more than 130 researchers and teacher-researchers from 14 institutions (Université Paris-Saclay, Inria, CEA, CentraleSupélec, CNRS, Ecole polytechnique, ENSAE, HEC, IFP-EN, IMT, INRA, Université Evry-Val d’Essonne, Université Paris-Sud, Université Versailles - Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines), as well as an industrial affiliation program allowing close collaboration with the companies.
Data are the natural resource of the 21st century: digitalization makes data central to virtually all sectors, from manufacturing and sales to education and health. New industrial players with data-intensive innovative models challenge the historical leaders of existing economic sectors (e.g., transportation, insurance, tourism).
Data-intensive players have demonstrated their potential to change our way of life, our social structures and even our entire social landscape. More and better is to come: data-agile organisms will be in position to support global economic growth, social innovation, and improved health and well-being.
In brief, data-driven economy is a new game, that relies on a disruptive technology; it faces huge scientific and technical challenges on the one hand --acquire, store and process an amount of data that is doubled every two years-- and gigantic social, legal and ethical challenges on the other hand.
The objective of DATAIA Institute is to face both types of challenges in an integrated way, simultaneously advancing data science through:
- cutting edge research (algorithms, software, demonstrations);
- empowering human sciences to face the digital revolution;
- forging a shared vision of socially sustainable data sciences.
Specifically, this goal involves:
- advancing toward interdisciplinary overarching challenges, measured by joint actions and programs between players from different disciplines who tackle a given problem together;
- achieving a high-level of integration between academia and industry players in thescope of DATAIA Institute;
- developing novel initial and lifelong education curricula with interdisciplinary expertise and vision;
- consolidating the international visibility of the Paris-Saclay data science community, attracting world scientific leaders.
These curricula aim to both form the next generation of data scientists, and educate managers and policy makers to leverage responsibly data resources.
Develop an integrative vision
The objective of the DATAIA institute is to improve in a concerted way: the state of the art in data sciences preparing the emergence of innovative artificial intelligence services (from algorithms to proofs of concepts); the junction of the human sciences and the digital revolution. The DATAIA Institute should allow the different disciplines concerned to seize an issue by taking into account all of its dimensions and impacts.
Trainings of excellence offer
The DATAIA Institute's mission is to develop, in connection with this interdisciplinary research, innovative trainings of excellence at the master and doctorate levels, in initial training as well as in continuing education for the training of the next generation of "data scientists".
Relations between academic and industrial worlds
The DATAIA Institute will strengthen the dialogue between the academic and the industrial communities and consolidate the international visibility and expertise of the Saclay Data Science community by hosting major scientific personalities.
The DATAIA Institute's mission is to bring together, in an organized partnership in a given place, diversified research skills aimed at producing new knowledge through the joint mobilization of different disciplinary skills. Paris-Saclay University brings together experts of the highest international standard in various disciplines: mathematics, computer science, economics and management, humanities and social sciences. This disciplinary wealth is an unparalleled opportunity in France covering the entire spectrum of data sciences and artificial intelligence as well as societal issues.
