The recent emergence of generative AI tools accessible to the general public is revolutionizing teaching and assessment methods. It calls for a review of teaching practices, the role of teachers and the nature of learning in higher education.
The mission, entrusted to François Taddei, President of the Learning Planet Institute, and Frédéric Pascal, Director of the DATAIA Institute, has the following objectives:
-
Evaluate the impact of AI on teaching and learning methods;
-
Propose an integration framework adapted to different disciplines;
-
Identify training needs to help upskilling;
-
Propose ways of assessing and recognizing skills in the age of AI;
-
Define an ethical and regulatory framework to guarantee sovereign AI in higher education;
-
Propose lines of research on the uses of all ESR players, including teachers and students in France, Europe and internationally.
On handing over the mission letter, Patrick Hetzel, Minister under the Barnier government, declared: “AI is now a reality in our schools and universities. This mission will help us to define best practices and common methods for using AI, to which higher education teachers will be able to refer. Our aim is to put AI to work in the service of knowledge transmission”.
